Book Club to Restart for 2026-2027
The Ainsworth Library has books available now for the September Book Club. We are featuring a title by Jenna Blum this month. "Those Who Save Us" has multiple themes in it (mother and daughter relationships, inherited guilt, and a story of survival in WWII Germany).
For fifty years, Anna refused to talk about her life in Germany during World War II. Her daughter, Trudy, was only three when she and her mother were liberated by an American soldier and went to live with him in Minnesota. Trudy's sole evidence of the past is an old photograph: a family portrait showing Anna, Trudy, and a Nazi officer. Driven by guilt of her heritage, Trudy, now a professor of German history, begins investing the past and finally unearths the dramatic and heartbreaking truth of her mother's life. This story is a profound exploration of what we endure to survive.

Nebraska Libraries to Participate in “Library Fall Crawl”
More than 100 libraries across Nebraska are participating in the Second Annual Library Crawl, taking place from September 1 through November 30, 2026. The Library Fall Crawl invites residents to visit libraries across 109 communities within the state of Nebraska, exploring new spaces, attending programs and discovering the many resources each library has to offer.
To take part, patrons can pick up a free Library Fall Crawl Booklet beginning September 1. At each participating library, visitors will receive a sticker to mark their stop. Completed passports with at least ten stamps from ten different libraries will be entered into a prize drawing. The center page of the booklet may be turned in at the participant's home library or the tenth library they visit.
The Nebraska Regional Library Systems are sponsoring the event and providing four prize baskets; one prize per each Library System. All participants who visit more than 30 libraries will receive an exclusive 2026 Library Fall Crawl Tote Bag. The four winners will be announced on December 21st.

Community Heart Day
The Ainsworth Public Library will be working with the North Central District Health Department and the American Heart Association to host a Community Heart Day on September 15, 2026 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. You will get to enjoy a free healthy popcorn tasting, explore fun heart-health activities, and enter our raffle for a prize.
Community Heart Day is a fun, family-friendly, come and go event designed to introduce community members to the Libraries With Heart program while providing simple, practical information and activities focused on heart health. Participants can learn about blood pressure, Hands-Only CPR, AEDs, nutrition, healthy lifestyle changes, and the heart health resources available through their local library.
You may stay for 10 minutes or stay for the whole event! Tylinn Dodd will lead the heart sessions. Here is what is happening during the Community Heart Day:
12-1 p.m. Know Your Numbers: Blood pressure education, Blood pressure checks, understanding your numbers and introduction to the Libraries with Heart Kit (complete with a blood pressure monitor) that may be checked out by patrons.
1-2 p.m. Be Ready to Save a Life: Hands-Only CPR, AED awareness, and emergency preparedness
2-3 p.m. Nutrition Education: simple health snacks, food swaps, sodium awareness, and “Flavor It, Don’t Salt It!” popcorn
3-4 p.m. Healthy Lifestyle Changes: Small, realistic changes related to physical activity, sleep, stress, tobacco exposure, and heart health.
